Schools and community groups across the north and north-east are set to benefit after care home residents and staff took part in a walking and wheeling challenge.

The fundraising challenge was set by Parklands Care Homes as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations.

Care homes were challenged to cover as much distance as possible over a 30-day period in October, later extended into November because of poor weather conditions.

Each group will receive £250.

Homes in Muir of Ord, Grantown, Aberlour, Keith, Buckie and Cullen took part in the challenge which was won by Netherha care home in Buckie. Throughout the challenge, residents and staff were joined by local schools, walking groups and friends from the local community.

Joe Greiner, manager of Urray House in Muir of Ord, said: "Our walking and wheeling challenge has not only brought our community together but also made a meaningful difference to local schools and community groups across the north and north-east. I’m delighted that residents and staff chose to support Tarradale Primary School and I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone, including many of the pupils, for making this fundraising initiative such a success.”
