A DINGWALL care home has not met two requirements laid down by the Care Inspectorate.

Two inspectors carried out a follow up visit to Wyvis House, which is operated by Wyvis House Care Home Ltd, earlier this month to see what progress had been made since their last inspection.

The inspectorate had outlined the requirements at the end of December with the first being that, by January 31, people receiving care must experience an environment that is clean and hygienic.

This included: further de-cluttering of the environment; introducing enhanced cleaning schedules throughout the day and into the night; replacing damaged PPE station storage drawers; and implementing and fully documenting a robust system of quality assurance.

The inspectors found that this requirement had not been completely met and in their report they said: “Many of the elements in relation to clutter in lounges, dining rooms, and staff rooms had been resolved and we found these clean and clutter free.

“However, we noted an increased accumulation of paper documents and boxes covering workspace and mail trays in the offices. Some cupboards and storage areas remained cluttered and difficult to clean.”

They added that bathrooms and toilets looked clean, and mobile hoists which were out on the floors had recorded frequent cleaning between uses – however, some of the other mobile equipment, such as shower chairs, needed to be cleaned.

The report stated a number of other areas where improvements needed to be made, such as cleaning records, and a new deadline of March 14 was set to fully complete the needed improvements.

The operator also needed to meet the second requirement, that people receiving care must experience an environment with well looked after and clean furnishings and equipment, by January 31 but again the inspectors felt it had not been met.

The report stated: “Staff confirmed that they had completed mattress audits resulting in some being replaced. This reflected our own findings during the inspection and we saw that wheelchair cushions and lounge seats had been replaced.

“The majority of chairs had been removed and disposed of, however, there were some chairs that still needed to be removed and redecoration to be done to keep the premises well maintained.”

Inspectors found that audits had been introduced and completed for January 2022 but the report stated: “However, these needed to record the dates on which the audits were completed, who was responsible for the audits and when any issues identified as requiring action should be completed so that this can be prioritised and followed up.”

The report said the inspectors saw quality assurance measures which were starting to identify areas of the home environment but there were still some areas outstanding which had not yet been addressed.

Again the deadline of March 14 to fully meet the required improvements was set.
