IT has been compared unfavourably to "a painter's radio" though one hardcore fan charitably reckons it'll at least do a turn as a Christmas jumper.

One Staggie, almost lost for words, summed up his feelings fairly succinctly in two words: "a shocker".

Another is so taken aback with what was unveiled today he reckons Ross County "deserve to be relegated for this kit alone".

A bit harsh, perhaps, given the heroic last gasp escape from that fate just a few short weeks ago.

Some fans may have turned their backs on the new away kit but the vast majority won't let the maroon number colour their feelings about their favourites when the new season rolls around.

We're talking, of course, about Ross County Football Club's newly unveiled 2023/24 away kit – a maroon affair with splodgy white detail.

It comes hot on the heels of a simple, stylish home kit whose launch date happily coincided with a post play-off victory eurphoria

Ross County Football Club's new home kit for the 2023/24 Scottish Premiership season has gone down well with a surge in orders in the immediate aftermath of their successful survival comeback victory over Partick Thistle.

The good news? Not everyone hates the new away kit.

The bad news? Most do.

But perhaps it will be a grower...

Caleb Maclean's hot take today on Ross County socials was: 'Well I think it is a banger and I love it.'

Keith Brown was less enthused: 'Big seagulls up in Dingwall'.

Long-time fan Scott Clelland didn't mince his words: 'In all my years of following County this has to be the worst away strip we have ever had. A shocker.'

Steven Clelland was a little more measured: 'The home kit choice was excellent this year. I don’t have so much an issue with the design of the away kit but the colour choice is just not for me. I would have preferred if the maroon on the away kit had been replaced with a Ross County more traditional red so the away kit was more red with white splash.'

Ann Lennon took a pragmatic line: 'The strip is pretty awful but as long as the players who will be wearing it do well that’s the main thing. Good luck Staggies!'

David Youatt won't let the kit change his feelings for the club. His verdict: 'Love the Staggies, but don’t love this!'

David Johnson was immediately reminded of something when he saw it: 'Ahh, the apprentice plasterers' look.'

William Miller saw the silver (or should that be maroon?) lining: 'I suppose it’ll do as a Christmas jumper.'

Simon Kelt had half an eye on the new season fixture list: 'Wow. Tynecastle will be an interesting trip this year. Teams will be indistinguishable from each other. What’s with the maroon. Shocker.'

Norman Kebell struck a more conciliatory tone: 'Maybe I'm easily pleased but I like it.'

Eoin McNulty was having none of it: 'That is absolutely dreadful man. Been buying the home and away kits most years. Not buying either this season. We deserve to be relegated for this kit alone.'

Andrew Taylor reckons it'll be "going for a fiver at Christmas' In which case it will indeed make a cost-effective festive jumper...
