A DONATION of £2000 has been made to the Pat Munro Foundation by the Friends of Alan Ross Fund in memory of the popular Tain man who died last October.

When Mr Ross was diagnosed with cancer his life-long friend Jim Oliver organised the fundraiser towards helping Mr Ross's quality of life as he battled the dreadful disease.

Thanks to the generosity of local people, businesses, friends and family, £20,000 was raised, but sadly Mr Ross passed away after an eight-month fight, and now the money is being used to help local causes.

The cheque was presented to the foundation by Liz Ross, Alan’s wife and their daughter Sharon Nichol.

Pat Munro has pledged to match the donation which means a total of £4,000 will go towards helping local charities and community groups.

Mrs Ross said: "Alan was just a great guy. So loving and kind in every way to me and the kids. He’d do anything for anyone. All our neighbours knew that he’d look out for them too. Just a really lovely man."

Already donations have been made to a number of organisations including The Oxygen Works, Inverness, for an oxygen concentrator and masks, Highland Hospice for virtual reality walks equipment, Maggies, Tain St Duthus FC, a club dear to Mr Ross’s heart and MFR Cash For Kids to buy clothing and essential items for underprivileged children.

Mr Oliver said: “Alan’s wife, his children and all the family were very keen for all the money raised to stay locally and benefit the community. Through these donations Alan's memory will live on and it is hoped that we can make the fundraiser an annual event to continue his legacy well into the future.”

Brian Munro, managing director at Pat Munro (Alness) Ltd said: “Everyone at the Pat Munro Foundation is overwhelmed by this fantastic donation from the friends and family of Alan Ross.

"The foundation is dedicated to helping local causes that improve our communities and help those with specific challenges.

"We were more than happy to support the project that was planned to help Alan get a better quality of life, and it is tragic that he passed away before it could be delivered.”
