St Duthus FC donation from Jim Oliver is legacy of club's long-standing relationship with the late Alan Ross
A GENEROUS donation has been made to St Duthus football club in memory of Alan Ross, who died last October following an eight month battle with cancer.
A sum of £1500 was gifted to the club from funds raised at an event organised by his life-long friend, James Oliver.
Mr Oliver organised the Friends of Alan Ross Fundraiser last summer and was successful in raising more than £20,000 to be donated to charities and causes important to Mr Ross.
Mr Ross had been heavily involved with football at different stages in his life, having performed a number of roles while associated with Tain St Duthus, as a player, manager and committee member.
The donation follows a £500 contribution from Mr Oliver in December, who agreed to donate 50% of the proceeds from his biography “What the **** were you playing at?”, which was launched on the night of the fundraiser.
Mr Oliver said: “I spoke with Alan about where we could put some of the proceeds from the fundraiser and my book sales. As we both played for Tain and had a life-long love of the game, it made sense to put something back into the club.”
A spokesperson for the club said: “Alan was a great servant to the club and this donation is a further example of the generosity he continued to show us, even as a supporter. St Duthus have always been indebted to Alan as one of our greatest custodians, and as has been evident in many messages we have received in recent months, he is sorely missed. We extend our thanks to Alan’s wife Liz, his family and Jim for this wonderful gesture.”
