PARENTS and pupils at an Easter Ross primary are being reminded that they are still "at school" during the usual weekday hours despite the fact buildings have been closed in line with the coronavirus lockdown.

Several schools across the county issued reminders to parents and pupils over the need to register their "attendance" while working from home during the extended lockdown and following the Easter break.

South Lodge Primary head teacher David Hayes-Macleod outlined plans for a weekly assembly online and told parents in a posting not to worry if they are "finding things overwhelming or if there is too much being asked of you".

He said: "We are in this together and we are on hand to help you too. Please do not worry or panic. We will help you!"

The head teacher also used a posting on the schools social media channel to remind pupils that from Monday to Friday "you are still at school between 9am and 3pm even though you are home".

He appealed to pupils to help their parents make the experience as stress-free as possible and to do their best to complete work assigned to them via platforms such as Google Classroom and Seesaw.

He said in a note to parents: "By working together we can make this very strange time easier and less stressful for everyone."

Schools have a legal duty to continue to provide education and follow procedures as closely as they can. That includes ensuring pupils register through agreed procedures.
