Dingwall Museum hosts medal ceremony as Seaforth Association accolades and BEM awards handed out to members of community

DESERVING members of a Ross-shire community took a bow at a special event recently.

Dingwall Museum's Medal Room was the fitting scene for the presentation which followed of Seaforth Association medals and bars, an honorary president's certificate and a British Empire Medal to various members of the Ross-shire committee.

The presentations were made by Lord Lieutenant, Joanie Whiteford. In addition to committee members, those present included Janet Bowen, the current Lord Lieutenant's predecessor. Mrs Bowen is an honorary member of the Seaforth Highlanders Regimental Association and was very supportive of the branch's activities during her term of office.

Five-year long service medals were presented to Brian McAngus (main branch webmaster), Sandra Shepherd (branch secretary) and Jack Shepherd (website assistant).

Presentation of bars were made to Kevin MacLeod collected in his absence by his father, Bert MacLeod), Ian Macleod, Walter Miller, Bob Shanks and Grant MacLennan.

In addition, three of the committee members have now been awarded the British Empire Medal. They were Ian Macleod, Peter Angus – who could not attend on the day – and Robert Shanks.

Sandra Shepherd and her son Jack Shepherd both received a medal for each serving on the branch committee for five years – believed to be a unique occurrence

You will see from the presentation list that both Mrs Sandra Shepherd and her son Jack Shepherd both received a Medal for each serving on the Branch Committee for 5 years - surely a unique occurrence
