More than fifty Cromarty residents took to the street to show their support for the people of Ukraine on Sunday.
Organised by the Cromarty Peace Group, those who attended made clear their solidarity with innocent civilians in Kyiv, and throughout Ukraine, following the invasion of their country by Russian forces.
The group also expressed their support for Russian protestors who have spoken out against Vladimir Putin’s assault on Ukraine.
Local woman Doris McCann spent time teaching English in Russia and has also hosted groups of children affected by the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl.
Having been in contact with a Russian friend in recent days, she read out a statement which made it clear that her friend did not support Putin, or his attack on Ukraine.
Other speakers shared their concern for those trapped in Ukraine as well as for those fleeing the violence to neighbouring countries, while urging the UK Government to show a more welcoming face to Ukrainian refugees.
