A RANDOM shopper in a Ross-shire supermarket could make one local cause very happy indeed this weekend.

Tesco customers are well used to being given blue tokens at the checkout to 'vote' for their favourite good causes selected for a cash boost.

The Tesco Dingwall store is currently canvassing support for Friends of Tarradale, Loch Duich Primary School and Strathpeffer Primary School.

Each are currently in the vote with the blue tokens to receive £1500, £1000 or £500 dependent how each group is placed at the end of three months.

The three months ends on September 30.

However, there is a chance of one of them being awarded a whopping £5000 with a special vote taking place in store on Saturday.

Community champion Michelle Mackay explained: "Tesco Dingwall has been chosen by our store director/area manager to be in a position to offer a £5000 Golden Grant to one of three lucky groups in our Stronger Start Scheme. Dingwall was chosen as one of 102 stores nationwide for the contributions our store has made to the local community.

"Myself, along with our duty manager of the day will be visible in store with a pouch where customers can pick from 99 blue tokens and the 1 gold token being in there as well. The customer who selects the golden token will be asked to pick which group out of the three they would like to give the golden token too.

"This is an amazing incentive for Dingwall Tesco and more importantly the three local groups in this scheme."

The Friends of Tarradale say they are continuing the excellent work of MOO Food in the community, by growing food within the school whilst teaching the children about sustainability.

Loch Duich Primary has a seed to plate project, improving the school garden and encouraging local children to see where their food comes from.

And Strathpeffer Primary School plans a sensory room as part of plans to enhance the environment of the school.

It says this will be used by all and to support children who find learning in a classroom challenging.
