A CENTURY old greenhouse at a Ross-shire visitor attraction is set to be demolished to make way for a newer structure if the applicant gets the go-ahead.

Joanna Macpherson, from Attadale Gardens in Wester Ross, has applied to Highland Council for listed building consent as the property has a Category C listing.

The greenhouse lies within within the curtilage of the listed building and would be totally or substantially demolished.

Ms Macpherson added: "It is an old greenhouse beyond repair which will be taken down and replaced with a very similar new Alitex greenhouse. It is very old and no longer fit for purpose."

The application says it is a single storey greenhouse which is approximately 100 years old.

"The building is generally of mid height masonry blockwork walls with a pitched stick built timber roof and wall structure with glazed panels. The ground floor is of concrete.

The timber roof structure is in poor condition suffering from dampness, the report says.

The house at Attadale was built in 1755 and features in the campaign Are You a West Coaster? by Visit Wester Ross.

It aims to attract visitors to the west coast and to remind locals what the area has to offer.

Attadale Gardens has views of Skye and lots of scenic paths throughout woodland, past waterfalls and sculptures, a herb garden and even a Japanese garden for guests to enjoy.
