ROUGH weather on the west coast has forced the cancellation of some ferry crossings in the Minch, CalMac has warned.

The 3pm Stornoway-Ullapool ferry and the 6.30pm Ullapool-Stornoway sailing are both cancelled "due to present and forecast wind and swell conditions.

"Cancelling a sailing is a decision we do not take lightly because we know it will inconvenience our customers and the communities we serve," said a CalMac spokesman.

"However, the safety of our customers and crew must come first. In this instance, the Master of the vessel has judged it is necessary in response to the assessment of adverse weather conditions."

They have also warned that the overnight freight ferries are also at risk of cancellation at short notice due to the conditions, but were still scheduled to sail at the time of writing. These are the 10.10pm ferry from Stornoway and the 2.50am crossing from Ullapool.

"We’ll keep customers informed should there be any further changes in connection to this route. If you’ve not already done so, download our app or follow our Twitter @CalMac_Updates so we can provide you with timely updates, with the latest information we have available.

"Alternatively, you can also sign up to our service status text updates."
