AN Easter Ross parkrun marked a milestone in typically colourful form over the weekend.

Alness Parkrun celebrated its sixth birthday on Saturday.

Parkrun is a worldwide movement involving timed 5k runs taking place on Saturday mornings at 9.30am.

The social running events encourage regular exercise and help bring communities together.

Organisers shrugged off the weather and had cakes aplenty to tempt out regulars and newcomers alike.

Fancy dress was an optional extra with Super Mario, the Queen of Hearts, Pikachu and a unicorn amongst the characters romping round the course.

One visitor from outwith the area posted: "We really enjoyed our birthday tourism at Alness (it was our birthdays this week too – a few years older than 6 though). Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers."
