UPDATE: Lines reopen between Inverness and Central Belt after person struck by train
A person died after being hit by a train between Inverness and Aviemore earlier today.
Trains between Inverness and the central belt have been cancelled today after a person was struck by a train.
British Transport Police were called at around 10am this morning (April 3) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
A spokesperson said: “Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the procurator fiscal.”
Police Scotland have also confirmed that the B9006 at Culloden Moor is currently closed between Leanach and Croy due to an incident on the rail line.
Road users are advised to avoid the area.
Scotrail confirmed the incident which took place between Inverness and Aviemore.
The 8.38am train from Edinburgh to Inverness was terminated at Perth and the 10.50am Inverness to Edinburgh will be started from Kingussie.
The 9.42am Inverness to Glasgow Queen Street service has also been cancelled,with the 10.07am train starting from Perth and Terminated at Pitlochry.
All lines are currently closed and disruption is expected to last until around 12:30 today (03 April).
A Scotrail spokesperson said: “Unfortunately we have had reports of a person being struck by a train between Inverness and Aviemore.
“We are working closely with emergency services during this time and will keep customers updated.”
This followed earlier disruption after this morning’s Caledonian Sleeper service from London Euston to Inverness developed a fault with its locomotive between Pitlochry and Blair Atholl.
The broken-down Caledonian sleeper is now on the move however due to the ongoing Police incident around Culloden viaduct the is stopped at Aviemore.
