UPDATE: Lines reopen between Inverness and Central Belt after person struck by train

ScotRail has confirmed that lines south of the Highland capital have reopened after the emergency incident, however, disruption is expected to continue throughout the day.

British Transport Police said officers were called to the line near Inverness at around 9.54am today (3 April) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident prompted the closure of train lines between Inverness and Aviemore, with services being cancelled or diverted this morning.

Earlier today a Caledonian Sleeping train travelling to Inverness experienced technical issues and was then delayed by the tragic incident.

Disruption has also hit the Far North Line, with trains between Inverness and Wick cancelled due to staff shortages.
