EASTER Ross pupils marking a milestone in their education today will be welcomed to secondary school with a special induction.

Alness Academy says it is looking forward to welcoming all its students back after the summer holidays today with registration starting at 8.45am.

It said: "A special welcome to our new S1 students who will meet in the canteen at 8.45am where they will be inducted into the school. This will involve a warm welcome from our headteacher.

"In addition, S1 students will then be sent into registration classes, issued with PIN numbers for the canteen and each given a new Chromebook and cover.

"They will also learn about some of the exciting lunch and after-school activities they can get involved with as well as being introduced to the student support team."

Each registration class will be assigned some older students to act as "buddies" along with their pupil support teacher, who they will be introduced to through the induction event.

The school said: "By mid-morning, most S1 students will be taken to their timetabled classes as they start their journey in the Academy."

The new intake will enjoy state of the art facilities – including access to a swimming pool – following the opening last year of the new school.
