A835 hidden gem Tarvies Café praised for ‘going extra mile’ to reduce waste

Hidden gem on the A835, Tarvies Café, has been praised for “going the extra mile” by reducing waste and recycling.

Award-winning local environmental activism group, the Ullapool Sea Savers, have commended the cafe for their “proactive steps taken” to make sure their waste is properly recycled and reused wherever possible.

Tarvies has ensured their recycling is uncontaminated by multiple bins for: general waste, takeaway boxes, lids and bottles, cans, cups and cardboard. They have even used their coffee grounds to as a fertiliser for their flower boxes.

The Ullapool Sea Savers said: “Really REALLY impressed with the proactive steps taken by the team at Tarvies to make sure their waste is correctly separated out and food-waste-free so it can be recycled!

“It’s not at always easy for food outlets to make sure their recycling is treated as uncontaminated, and thus not sent to landfill by The Highland Council, but these guys are really going the extra mile.”
