The boys who were in sixth year in Dingwall Academy in 1952-53 have held an annual reunion every year from 1960 to 2019. .

These reunions took the form of meeting for a meal at a Ross-shire venue.

The last three years, however, have been missed due to lockdowns and concerns surrounding the coronavirus pandemic

Happily they resumed this year with a get-together at The Cottage Bar in Maryburgh.

The group recall their schooldays, and catch up with current news

They were started by Jock Watt, who was the school captain of that year. He was the son of Norman Watt, former editor of the Ross-shire Journal. He organised the event over the years assisted by Eric Munro and Stuart McCulloch.

2023 marked 70 years since they left school.

Pupils who started Dingwall Academy in 1953 meet to mark a milestone

Of the 16 boys in the Class of '53 , eight have, sadly, passed on.

However, it was thought those remaining might revive the old tradition.Five of them met in the Cottage Bar, Maryburgh for a lunch. They were Roy Macintyre, John Alec MacRae, Eric Munro, Sandy MacDonald and John C. MacKay.

Roy and John Alec hail from Gairloch, and attended the school hostel with other pupils from Wester Ross, in the days before Wester Ross has its own secondary schools.

They had a pleasant lunch, and were able, once again, to chat about old times and to relate their current news.
