SCORES of runners and walkers – some in fancy dress, others pushing prams, some led by enthusiastic dogs – turned out to help an Easter Ross parkrun mark a milestone in its history at the weekend.

Alness Parkrun celebrated its 200th outing in style on Saturday with 152 participants and 20 all-important volunteers turning up at the start line at the town’s Crawl Park.

Early arrivals might have seen the occasional shadowy, cloaked figure drifting across the grey morning gloom well before the start.

With a nod to the hit reality TV show filmed at nearby Ardross Castle, there was a Traitors fancy dress theme with capes, cloaks and masks adding a touch of intrigue to proceedings.

Cake at the finish line of the parkrun – a weekly timed 5km event which starts at 9.30am on Saturdays year round – ensured a celebratory atmosphere at the friendly event.

Race director Adele Phemister got into character to brilliantly channel her inner Claudia Winkleman in her organisational role while two other volunteers took inspiration from Alan Cumming, the Scottish actor host of the American version of The Traitors.

The event was marked by smiles, warm greetings between old friends and encouragement for newcomers.

Long-time volunteer Aileen Stuart called it” a fabulous day” with many individual stories.

Adele Phemister added: “The volunteers are invaluable. This is a free event every Saturday which anyone can come along to. It just can’t happen without the volunteers.”
