BUDDING young rugby players from Ross-shire will enjoy a moment in the limelight on Friday as they take to the same field being used by future Scottish stars of the game.

A team of primary school children who train with Ross Sutherland Rugby Club will provide the half-time entertainment during the Scotland v Wales U20 International match at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium in Inverness.

Along with three other teams from the Highlands, the Ross Sutherland P6/7 team has been given the chance to play on the pitch during the half-time interval in front of several thousand Scotland supporters.

Looking forward to what is sure to be a memorable evening, Jeff Calder, P6/7 team manager said: "It's a tremendous honour for the boys to be able to play on the same pitch as Scotland's future stars. They can’t wait for Friday to come and playing in front of so many fans makes it all the more special. I'm sure we'll be able to show the crowd just how much young rugby talent there is in the north of Scotland, and in a few years hopefully some of them will be pulling on the dark blue strips themselves."

Team sponsor Quintin Stevens of Storehouse of Foulis will also be there to cheer them on. “I was going to the match anyway,” he said. “I was thrilled when the club told me the boys would be playing at half-time. It’s great to think that they’ll get the chance to impress the crowd and I’m sure they’ll all benefit from the experience.”

Ross Sutherland junior training for all ages from P1 to S6 is on Saturdays from 10am – noon at the Naval Grounds, Castle Road, Invergordon.

The other teams taking on Friday are: Caithness, Highland and Nairn Thunderbolts.
