Women make a fine pair to win Invergordon bowls competition

Fiona Dobson and Terry MacLeod came out on top to be crowned champions at the Invergordon Bowling Club annual club pairs indoor short mat bowling competition.

The competition was held at the clubhouse, in Invergordon, with 16 members participating.

The competition held last week was split into two leagues, with each game consisting of six ends with eight players each.

The leagues took the format of a round robin contest with each pair’s team playing each other and thereafter winners of each league came together for the grand finale.

The final saw Dobson and MacLeod being pitted against George MacKay and Cath McBay. A gripping and entertaining match, cheered on by club members ensued with Dobson and MacLeod securing a victory and becoming the 2022/23 Indoor Club Pairs Champions.

Invergordon Bowling Club is open for the short mat season most afternoon’s with members of the public invited to sessions.

Sessions are free to anyone giving it a try for the first month.

Thereafter the club subscription is half the normal price for the remaining outdoor season.

The club have a number of sets bowls that anyone new can borrow

But the club request that new players to wear flat soled shoes, trainers are quite okay as long as they don’t have deep grooves/tread pattern.

A spokesperson for the club said the club are actively looking for new members to join and encourage anyone interested to find out more about the sport about taking part themselves.

He said: “All ages are welcome at our friendly community club which has been established for over 120 years.

“We are currently actively encouraging new members to join us, so why not contact us to give bowls a try.”
