Winning ways for young Muir golfer

A YOUNG player from Muir of Ord Golf Club was in the team which lifted the ClubGolf Junior Masters title in the season finale at Blairgowrie.
Jamie Dobie teamed up with Hamish Brown and Rory Thain of Golf House Club Elie and PGA professional Robert Farrell to win the Pro-am 18 hole stableford competition with a sensational 127 points. James Boyd was part of Team JRJ with Rory and Jamie, which qualified for the grand final at Auchterarder in July.
In second place with 117 points was Dumbarton Golf Club’s team of Ashton McLean, Lorna McClymont, Maria Docherty and PGA professional Colin Fisher.
The final began with a shotgun start in wet and windy conditions for the 19 teams playing the Rosemount course – venue for the Junior Ryder Cup a month earlier. However, the mixed weather conditions had little impact on enjoyment levels for the players or their families who went along in support.
Ladies European Tour player Vikki Laing was among those taking part, teaming up with Connie Dodds and Alison Macnab from Kilmacolm and Charlotte McCluskey from Whitecraigs.
The 57 boys and girls qualified for the final from heats held at Auchterarder, Turriff and Powfoot Golf Clubs. ClubGolf chairman Bill Buchan and Blairgowrie Golf Club managing secretary Douglas Cleeton presented the prizes.
ClubGolf manager Jackie Davidson, said: “Congratulations to all the young golfers who took part in the qualifying heats and today’s grand final, especially to the winners.”
