Derek Adams believes attacking intent is showing at Ross County after picking up first win since returning to Dingwall against St Mirren

Derek Adams believes he is already starting to see his football ethos reflected back to him in how Ross County are performing on the pitch.

The Staggies picked up their first three points under the returning manager – and more generally their first win in almost three months – to leapfrog Aberdeen and Motherwell into eighth place in the Scottish Premiership.

While important from a league perspective, breaking the club's winless streak just eight days after being appointed manager will do squad morale and belief in what Adams is trying to get across the world of good.

"It hasn't been easy, because I've only been in a week and it's been a quick week," Adams reasoned.

"The way that I've been able to pick the team and put my ethos on to it, it's about playing on the front foot.

"I want to be standing on the touchline and seeing my team create chances, and we did that tonight.

"We've created three or four big opportunities in the game, and we could have been two or three-nil up. St Mirren had their first chance in the 80th minute, and I think that overall we were the team in the ascendancy.

"We created some really good opportunities and started well – just like we did on Saturday against Kilmarnock. We didn't get the fortune on Saturday, but our balls into the box caused St Mirren trouble and that's how we got the winning goal.

"Connor Randall also hit the post, and I don't know how he missed the one-on-one, but overall I'm delighted for the players and the supporters.

"St Mirren didn't really trouble us tonight. They have done really well this season to be third in the league, but we're now six points behind them."

The 1-0 victory also meant that Adams' Staggies have kept two clean sheets in back-to-back matches – the first time they have accomplished that in the league since March 2022.

Adams was certainly prioritising all three points, but he did make sure to credit his backline for the effort they put in to keep St Mirren at bay.

"It's all about winning and getting the three points, that's the major thing," he added.

"Clean sheets will get you so far, but it's the manner we're starting games and creating chances – and opening up St Mirren on a number of occasions that was really important.

"The home supporters want to see you attack, and we did that tonight.

"A special mention does have to go to the backline though, and Connor Randall I thought was brilliant.

"He kept Kiltie quiet, and he has been St Mirren's main player. He really didn't do much in the game, and Connor played an important role in that. On the flip side, he got into the box twice as well".
