Inver are in the last sixteen of the Highland Amateur Cup after a late show saw them defeat Inverness side Ferrybache in the second round.

Another trip to the city, this time to play the second string of Clachnacuddin, now awaits the Easter Ross club.

The hosts had taken a first half lead, but a late goal from Inver turned the game on its head before an injury time winner completed a remarkable turnaround.

Inver beat Inverness side Ferrybache 2-1 to reach the last sixteen of the Highland Amateur Cup.

Ferrybache opened the scoring during a tightly contested first half, and they enjoyed the advantage for the most of the game.

That was until the final minutes of the second period, when a through pass found Alex Mackenzie, and the young midfielder made no mistake with a shot fired into the bottom corner to make it 1–1.

The game looked like it would be heading for extra time before a set piece on the right hand side settled the affair.

A free kick floated into the box fell to experienced midfielder Dave Macgruer and with the last kick of the game, he fired the ball into the net to leave the Inverness side stunned.

The win secured Inver's place in the last sixteen of the Highland Amateur Cup – a first for the village side and one of only three teams from the county still in the competition.

Inver manager Paul Connolly said: "Inver reaching the last sixteen of the Highland Amateur Cup is definitely in my top five moments in 45 years of football.

"There is no better time to win a game than with a last minute winner, and to see the joy on the players' and fans' faces at the end was the best feeling.

"We took some thumpings last year, but at our end of season do I told the boys to stick together and the results would come. We’ve added a couple of experienced boys to the squad and the young boys have really stepped up this year.

"We are getting great support from the village, which really helps the boys. In the last sixteen, we’ve been drawn away to Clach which we know will be a very tough game. We’ll be underdogs but that’s the way we like it. As we say you’ve got to be in it to win it."

Elsewhere, Avoch beat Ardersier 2–0, Fortrose Union overcame Conon Bridge by the odd goal in three, and Black Rock Rovers lost 2–0 to Western Isles side, Back.

The third round draw for the Highland Amateur Cup is as follows:

Lerwick Spurs v High Ormlie Hotspur

Stromness Athletic v Staxigoe United

Clachnacuddin Reserves v Inver

Harris v Lerwick Celtic

Back v Avoch

Wick Groats v Fortrose & Rosemarkie Union

Carloway v Golspie Stafford

Mallaig v Loch Ness
