YAN Dhanda is more convinced than ever that Ross County can play their way out of Premiership trouble after Sunday’s home defeat to Hearts.

The Staggies never stopped trying to break down the Edinburgh club’s defences and suffered a number of close calls after the huge setback of seeing an early lead overturned in Dingwall.

As they had the week before at Kilmarnock, Malky Mackay’s men created numerous chances, but again struggled to make them count in the 2-1 defeat.

Dhanda, making only his fifth start in the league, brimmed with confidence and intent throughout the contest, displaying flair and intelligence in his running, distribution and deliveries as County’s main instigator.

The former England youth international also set up Jordan White’s 11th minute opener before Lawrence Shankland and Andy Halliday – the latter with a header amid a shocking lack of marking – turned the game around inside the 21st minute.

“The biggest thing is we’ve dominated against one of the best teams in the league in that second half,” Dhanda said. “We can definitely take a huge amount of encouragement from that.

“There’s no time to dwell on it – we have to look at the positives. We dominated against a team that is playing in Europe this season. We’ll look to take that into next weekend’s game against St Mirren.

“We showed on Sunday that when we actually try and play football we are very capable of dominating matches. We had our chances, and it just gives us all the more belief in ourselves. When we get the ball on the floor and try to play we can cause any team problems.”

County, who host St Mirren next, have just seven goals from 13 league outings, but Dhanda is confident they will begin to flow.

“We work so hard for our goals, we need to stop letting such cheap ones go against us, but in the second against Hearts we showed just how good we can be,” he added.
