Club captain Keith Watson says Ross County are gunning for a result when Celtic come to Dingwall tomorrow night.

The experienced defender was involved in both of the Staggies’ wins over Celtic last season, and while there has been plenty of change at County since then, if anything, they are in a better position to cause an upset.

While Celtic join Rangers at the head of the form table with a long string of victories this season, County’s one defeat in their last six games is the lowest of any team outside the top two.

Saturday’s comeback win over Dundee showed a mental strength that County could have been accused of lacking in recent years too, so Watson believes Celtic will not look forward to their trip north.

“When you play Celtic or Rangers, they’re always difficult games,” the 32-year-old reasoned.

“But I don’t think they will fancy coming up here on a Wednesday night.

“We’ll be ready for it and we’re definitely going to go into the game looking to get something from it. We did it last season, and there’s no reason why this group can’t do the same.

“We’ve shown that we’ve got a great team spirit, and on our day we can play great football.

“We can mix it up as well, we’ve shown that we can dig in and fight for the three points too – we did that on Saturday.”

Last weekend saw County move off the bottom of the Premiership table for the first time in two months.

Tomorrow night presents an opportunity for them to rise up further – or sink back down if results elsewhere go against them.

Watson, though, is only looking upwards as the Staggies close in on the likes of St Mirren and Livingston, who are both well within reach with games in hand.

He added: “That’s just the start of it. We’re on a decent run at the minute, so we want to keep building and get as high up the table as we can. That’s us up one place now, so we’ve just got to keep that going.”
