Ardross athlete Catriona Fraser won the Nairn 10k for the first time in her career on Sunday.

The Inverness Harrier claimed women's gold with a time of 36 minutes and 45 seconds.

Fraser says she was happy with her performance as she prepares for the Inverness Half Marathon in seven days time and the Manchester Marathon in April.

"This was a tester to see where we are for the Inverness Half Marathon next weekend," she said.

"I wasn't expecting anything fantastic today and not a personal best, but I am pretty chuffed with the time considering we have a big few weeks ahead of us."

Fraser says she ran faster in the race than she thought she would, pleased she crossed the line in under 37 minutes.

"I was expecting to finish between 37 and 38 minutes, so to get under the 37 minutes I am pretty chuffed with that," she said.

"36 minutes 20 seconds is my personal best so it is a little bit off that, but as I am training for the Manchester marathon that was to be expected.

"This was my first 10k this season and it is always a great one to do.

"I have competed in the Nairn 10k before, but this is the first time I have won it."

Fraser now hopes she can take today's performance into putting in a good challenge at the Inverness Half Marathon next Sunday.

"It is a real confidence boost as I haven't ran on the road since October and you don't know where you're going to be so it is was nice to do this as a wee tester for next weekend.

"It will be tough competition next weekend, but I am hoping to give it a good go."
