After three ends Thomson was being held to a two-shot peel score by the Province President’s select (Finlay Mackenzie) skipped by his Muir of Ord clubmate Ali Eddie.

But Thomson finished the match strongly with three doubles for the 9-2 win.

Scott Fraser skipping the Belmaduthy second rink crushed Invergordon’s John Mcharg with a 12-1 result to play the other Muir of Ord rink in the last eight.

Richard MacKenzie progressed to his quarter final tie after winning six of the seven ends against Muir of Ord’s Ross Urquhart and recording an 8-1 result.

Inverness Police won the Area 13 Bookless Quaich Bonspiel that was skipped by Graham Mckenna.

Locheye’s Richard Mackenzie rink finished in second place after recording a two-game win and six shots.

After first-game defeats, a strong Belmaduthy rink of Jamie Fraser, Peter Fraser, Ian Fraser and Mike Paul surprisingly suffered a 7-5 defeat to Gordon Miller of Inverness and Nigel Murray from Invergordon.

Murray’s rink hit top form in their second game to win the Low Rod consolation by sweeping Finlay MacKenzie aside with the granny score of 14-0.

Finlay Mackenzie’s rink won the consolation Haggis prizes.

The next bonspiel scheduled to be played will be for the MacGregor Kettle.

The competition will take place on Saturday, February 29.

The format of the tournament will be of three five-end games which will be played to determine the winners.
