The 10-year-old from Tain, who is a member of the Inverness and District Motorcycle Club, clinched the British championship after the final race at the Surrey Schoolboys event.

The Inver Primary School pupil claimed victory after winning four of the seven rounds and taking second place in the other three rounds giving him the British Championship title for the Youth C medium wheel category riding a Beta 80cc medium wheel.

Wilson travelled to Hertfordshire, Kent, Derbyshire and Surrey to compete in the seven rounds across the series to claim the title.

His dad, James Wilson, says it was worth the distance as his son proved he had what it takes to become a British champion.

“All of the races were held in England,” said Wilson.

“Some of the venues took 13 hours to get there. But it was worth it in the end and he deserved to win.

“He started motorcycling from a young age and he just took to it. As he grew up, he wanted to take part in championships so we got him involved.

“He started competing at six, and he has gone on to do really well.

“He could be a big star in the future if he keeps going the way he is.”

It is the biggest win of Oliver’s career so far as he followed up winning the British Championship after previously winning the Scottish Championship.

During the Championship, Oliver was supported by his dad, as well as mum Emma and sister Abigail, who travelled with him to every race in the Championship.

James says Oilver is now preparing to compete at a higher level and is confident he can achieve the same success.

He said: “Oliver will now move up a class when he competes on a big wheel.”
