Tain Juniors impress at Scotland Cup in Ayr

Tain Juniors Under-10’s competed at the 30th Papa Joe McGill Land O ‘Burns Scotland Cup in Ayr in their first away trip as a squad.
The Scotland Cup is classed as the oldest grassroots football tournament in the UK and the third oldest in Europe. This tournament runs age groups from Age 6-16 and attracts over 200 teams each year.
Tain impressed in their first match against Claremont 2 when despite conceding an early goal, the lads picked themselves back up and went on to score seven without reply, with both Riley Stewart and Ali Wood scoring a hat-trick.
Tain then fired 11 past Troon Thistle with six different scorers during the game.
Tain then defeated Busby AFC from Clarkston with a 10-3 victory followed by a 5-0 win over Claremont 3 in an impressive first day of action.
Tain then started day two with a 7-0 win over Kirkfield United from Lanark.
In their toughest match of the tournament so far, Tain then saw off Stranraer outfit Millenium FC and came out 3-0 winners.
The final game of the weekend pitched Tain Juniors against Caledonia YC from Prestwick. The game swayed back and forth throughout with Tain ultimately coming out on top 3-2.
The club presented some commemorative trophies to each of the players and handed out some individual awards.
Most Improved Player 22/23 season went to Josh Shearer.
Coaches Player of the Year and Parents Player of the Year both went to Charlie Crawford.
Specific to the tournament Ali Wood was the top goalscorer and Harris MacDonald and Ryan Murray both shared the player of the tournament award.
