Tain golfer on top to claim victory in golf fixture in Caithness

BILLY Ferries claimed the scratch title at the North Winter Golf Alliance fixture at Reay Golf Club.

The Tain golfer was on top form to claim the title in west Caithness as he took victory with a round of 70.

He was three shots ahead of Michael Smith from Reay Golf Club who hit a 73.

Wick Golf Club’s Dougie Thorburn, who was dominant at the start of the campaign, had to settle for third place with a round of 74.

Caithness golfers dominated the other categories of the fixture on Sunday.

In category one, Jason Norwood from Reay claimed victory with a net score of 70.

Paul Mackay from Durness had to settle for second place when he was one shot behind with 71.

Brent Munro from Reay was in third place when he shot a net score of 73.

In category two, Steven Lowe from Thurso claimed victory when he shot a net score of 67.

Mark Mackay from Wick finished in second place over Pete McCartney from Lybster thanks to a better inward half after both men finished on 70.

In the ladies competition, Carol Paterson from Reay recorded a net score of 75.

She was one shot ahead of second and third place with Eileen Manson and Aileen Simmonite both from Thurso finishing on 76.

Manson took second place from Simmonite thanks to a better inward half.

The penultimate fixture of the league season is at Golspie on February 26 with the final fixture taking place at Brora at March 12.
