Tain football club recognise under-18 achievers at awards night

Parents, coaches, players and committee of St Duthus Football Club gathered at Tain Golf Club on Sunday as the club presented its under-18 end of season awards.

The 'Young Saints' rounded off their 2022-23 season in the Highland League North division with an impressive 8-2 win over Rothes earlier that day – a record result for the team.

Collecting the award for Players' Player of the Year, and this season's Top Goalscorer award with 20 goals, was Johnie Beattie.

Striker Johnie Beattie was named as Player's Player of the Year, having earned the most votes from his peers at the end of a campaign which had seen him net an impressive 20 goals. Beattie (18) was also presented with an award as Top Goalscorer at the club.

There was a special shield presentation for the club's Most Improved Player, as selected by coaches Andrew Mackenzie and Alex Mcdonald. The Tain & Easter Ross Rotary Club shield, which was presented by Rotary member William Cowie for the first time since 2019, was awarded to 17 year old Billy Knox.

Billy, it was noted, has showed incredible development as a young player throughout the season, having played in several positions for the club - including goalkeeper!

Billy Crombie was also named as the Parents' Player of the Year, presented with the award by parent's representative Neil Mackenzie.

Midfielder Alex Mackenzie collected an award for Goal of the Season for his role as scorer of a fine team goal recorded against Keith at Dalmore Park last month.

Following some words of inspiration from coaches Andrew Mackenzie and Alex Mcdonald, the players in attendance received an award for their participation during the season. Parent representative Sam Ross also presented special awards of thanks to Andrew and Alex for their commitment during the campaign.

The club thanked several people who had made a contribution during the football season in a post on Facebook, stating: "Thank you to Sam and Roz for organising a fantastic awards night at Tain Golf Club where a fantastic meal was enjoyed. Thank you also to Willie Cowie of Tain Rotary for joining us to present the shield.

"With the season now over, the club wishes to extend its thanks to coaches Andrew and Alex who have given so much to the cause this year, and to Arron, Graham, Steve and Davie, and to Fiona Mackenzie for capturing the season on film throughout the year."
