Ross County 1 (Mckay)

Hibernian 2 (Boyle, Nisbet)

Kevin Nisbet's first goal in nine games gave Hibernian all three points against Ross County.

Billy Mckay had opened the scoring in the 50th minute, only for Martin Boyle to equalise from the penalty spot three minutes later.

Nisbet, who started the match on the substitutes' bench, was the difference between the sides in the end with his 60th minute strike.

A lack of quality in the final third meant that chances were few and far between in the first half.

Hibs had most of the ball but struggled to find a meaningful breakthrough.

It was perhaps appropriate then that the best opportunity of the first 45 minutes came from a defensive error by Leo Hjelde.

The on-loan Celtic man sold Ross Laidlaw short with a backpass, allowing Martin Boyle to nip in and take control of the ball.

He was forced too wide to have a shot at goal himself though, eventually picking out Chris Cadden who sliced his effort over the bar.

The game burst into life after the restart though, and Ross County were the first to find the net.

Jason Naismith's high ball into the box held up slightly in the air, allowing Jordan White to cushion it down for Billy Mckay to slot past Ofir Marciano.

Just a couple of minutes later though, Hibs were level from the penalty spot.

Alex Iacovitti was adjudged to have taken down Martin Boyle inside County's box – a decision that infuriated the Staggies – and the Australian international stepped up himself to dispatch the spot kick.

Hibs would take the lead soon after just as the clock hit the hour mark through substitute Kevin Nisbet.

Laidlaw had actually made two important stops to deny Boyle and Alex Gogic in the build-up, but County could not clear the ball away from danger and Nisbet got on the end of Paul Hanlon's ball across the face of goal to finish.

Although the match would settle down after a hectic spell to start the second half, both sides would have more chances before all was said and done.

White hit the post for Ross County after heading Hjelde's free kick towards goal, while Nisbet went close to adding to his tally, forcing Laidlaw to make a fingertip save.

County could not find an equaliser though, leaving them still four points off the bottom while Hibs extended their lead in third over Aberdeen to six points.
