Strathpeffer shinty kids make their mark at Castle Leod tourney

YOUNG Strathpeffer shinty stars picked up the majority of the trophies at the Ross-shire Camanachd Association’s annual six-a-side Tournament at Castle Leod earlier this month.

Eighteen teams took part in the various competition and the prizegiving ceremony was presided over by the secretary of the association, David MacMaster.

He gave special thanks to past president of the Camanachd Association, John MacKenzie of Newtonmore, and former senior referee John Henderson, now also of Newtonmore, who carried out the judging of the extra awards in the A. R. MacKenzie Cup competition.

Results:

Primary 3 and under – 1 Strathpeffer; 2 Lochcarron.

Primary 5 and under (W. J. MacPherson Trophy) – 1 Strathpeffer; 2 Dingwall ‘B’.

Primary Schools (A. R. MacKenzie Cup) – 1 Strathpeffer; 2 Dingwall.

Under 14 (Dundonnel Cup) – 1 Kyle; 2 Strathpeffer.

Under 14 (Gunn Trophy) – 1 Kinlochshiel; 2 Caberfeidh ‘A’.

In the A. R. MacKenzie competition the award for the Best Player went to Sandy Marren, Strathpeffer while the runner-up was Arran Jack, Auchtertyre.

Cameron Coburn, Strathpeffer received the Robert Taylor Award as the best goalkeeper.

The association’s tournament for the Valerie Olivant Memorial Trophy which will be held at Castle Leod, Strathpeffer on Wednesday, June 21 at 5pm.
