STRATHPEFFER cyclist Fin Graham successfully defended his Men's C3 Individual Pursuit title as he claimed gold at the World Cycling Championships in Glasgow.

The 23-year-old powered his way to his first gold medal of the world championships as he claimed victory by defeating fellow British cyclist Jaco Van Gass in the 3000 metre final.

Graham recorded a winning time of three minutes 19.946 seconds at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome with a winning margin of 5.107 seconds.

He added the gold to the two silver medals he won in the C3 Scratch Race and in the Men C3 1km time trial.

Speaking after becoming world champion, Graham says the individual pursuit was the one title he targeted to win and was delighted to meet his objective.

“I’m over the moon,” he said after his victory.

“This was the one that I wanted to win and coming into the event if I could win one it was this one, in front of a Scottish crowd.

“To get one over my teammate Jaco, who won in Tokyo, that’s a nice feeling and it’s one-all now.”

Graham says becoming world champion in his own country and in front of a Scottish crowd made winning the world title even more significant.

“Celebrating in front of that crowd afterwards was something really special.

“I don’t even know what time I did, as come the final it’s just all about winning.

“I knew I was down in the first half, but as the crowd got louder and louder, I knew it was going in the right direction.

“This was a once in a lifetime opportunity, so I made the most of celebrating in front of a Scottish crowd.”
