Malky Mackay insists the slate will be wiped clean at Ross County ahead of Wednesday night's rematch against Aberdeen.

The Dons ran out 4-0 winners in the first of a double header between the two sides, claiming all three points in the Premiership.

However, the teams will meet once again in just a few days in the League Cup quarter finals in Dingwall – with a trip to Hampden at stake.

Mackay knows his team will be in for a tough time once again, then, against Aberdeen on Wednesday, but he says that any lingering disappointment from the defeat at Pittodrie will be out of his players' systems by the time they get into training tomorrow morning.

"In that first 20 minutes of the second half, we didn't do ourselves justice and Aberdeen deserved everything they got today," Mackay reasoned.

"It's about us going back in tomorrow morning and seeing that there were glaring mistakes and poor decisions for the goals.

"It's a Viaplay Cup quarter final on Wednesday night to get to Hampden, so I won't need to lift them for that.

"The disappointment will be tonight, and then our focus on Monday and Tuesday will be on Wednesday night.

"People can look at that in different ways – it's the same thing coming, but we have a chance to give a better account of ourselves.

"We've got a good group of players, and I'm conscious that we don't make as many poor decisions."

Ross County have the potential prize of a first trip to Hampden in seven years if they claim victory on Wednesday night.

As far as Mackay is concerned, that should be enough to motivate his players to get a measure of revenge against Aberdeen in Dingwall.

"It's the Viaplay Cup, and every player should want to go to Hampden for the semi finals," he added.

"It's what I want, and we know we've got a tough game coming up because it's a team who have just beaten us 4-0.

"You can't get into the doldrums over one game, and we've got a really good group of players who have given a good account of themselves in the Premiership this season.

"There are days you are off it – you hope not too many, and there weren't too many last year in the general scheme of things.

"We've got to make sure we make it a tough game for them on the night as well."
