ST Duthus manager Alan Geegan has challenged his starting line up to keep their place in the first team if they want to play in the North Caledonian Cup final next month.

The Tain outfit will meet Halkirk United in the final at Dudgeon Park in Brora on Saturday, April 2 after they defeated Nairn County A 2–1 last weekend.

Jamie Skinner broke the deadlock four minutes before half time with Jake Lockett doubling their advantage six minutes after the break.

Grant Hogg pulled one back for Nairn County in the 56th minute, but Saints held on to progress to the final.

With four weeks to go before the final, Geegan does not expect his team to take it easy in the league, despite the title being out of reach.

He is challenging his players to show why they deserve to keep their place in the first team, starting against Orkney at Grant Park tomorrow.

“This will be a period for the boys to claim a place in the cup final,” he said.

“We can’t win the league now, but we are looking to get as far up the table as possible.

“As the season draws to an end, there is always a risk of boys switching off.

“But having a cup final to look forward to will keep us competitive in our final league games as I will be looking for good performances.”

Geegan says he will be looking to keep the same starting 11 in the remaining league games in the run up to the final and is not tempted to experiment.

“With the unbeaten run we have been on, a lot of the boys have made the jersey their own.

“”I’m not afraid to mix up, but I don’t expect to as such as I want to win every match which I always treat as a cup final.”
n Elsewhere in the league, title chasing Invergordon welcome Bonar Bridge to Recreation Park.

Alness United travel to Golspie Sutherland and league leaders Loch Ness head to Caithness to face Halkirk United.
