For the second week in-a-row, Kinlochshiel will host Caberfeidh as two of shinty’s top teams go head to head.

Last time out, it was an opening round tie in the Macaulay Cup, which ‘Shiel won 4-1 in Balmacara.

Kyle Grant opened the scoring to put Caberfeidh ahead in the 20th minute, but Finlay MacRae levelled up before half time.

After the restart, it was one-way traffic as Kinlochshiel took the lead through MacRae’s second, before Zander MacRae and Archie MacRae added to the tally to give ‘Shiel a three-goal win.

Tomorrow afternoon the teams will meet again in Reraig, this time in Premiership action.

There, Cabers have had the better start to the season, sitting second in the standings after six matches with three wins and a draw on their record.

Kinlochshiel, meanwhile, have not been as fortunate, with just two wins leaving them seventh for the time being.

In the rest of the Macaulay Cup’s north half, Lovat needed a penalty shoot-out to get past close rivals Beauly.

Greg Matheson’s opener had earlier been cancelled out by Beauly’s David MacLean.

Also through to the next round are both Badenoch giants, after Newtonmore defeated Fort William 4-0 and Kingussie saw Lee Bain score a hat-trick on their way to a 4-2 win at Skye.

Tomorrow’s Premiership fixture list sees leaders Newtonmore at home against Skye, while defending champions Kingussie host Glasgow Mid-Argyll and Lovat and Kyles Athletic each go on the road, travelling to Oban Camanachd and Beauly respectively.

Ross sides progressed in the Strathdearn Cup last weekend, but not in the manner they would have wanted.

Kinlochshiel and Lochcarron both made it into the next round by walkovers, with Lochaber and Strathspey respectively unable to field a team.

The two Ross-shire outfits actually go up against each other in a different cup competition this weekend, with Lochcarron travelling to Balmacara in the second round of the Sutherland Cup.

With that competition on the calendar, regional league action is few and far between, but Caberfeidh are taking part in one of two North Division Two matches.

They will host Aberdeen University at Strathpeffer’s Castle Leod, looking to move a step closer to the top of the table.
