The striker had just come into a clinical run when he picked up an injury in the Betfred Cup, which forced him to miss a month of action.

Four goals in six games showed that he had finally found his footing after a slow start to his career in Dingwall, and he wants to return to that form.

“Obviously I was on a good run before I got injured, so that was the frustrating part for me,” he said.

“I want to continue that run going forward now I’ve got myself back in the team after injury.

“We’ve got that shape to go and play from that will keep us compact in the game, and we can go and win the game from there.

“I’m hoping to be the man that will do that.”

Being injured was a frustrating spell for Shaw.

He had to be patient after first signing for the Staggies, often starting games on the substitutes’ bench before Covid-19 brought last season to a premature end.

Really, he was just establishing himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet before his injury, making it all the more frustrating to have to concede his place in the starting 11 through no fault of his own.

“It was very frustrating,” he admitted.

“I was in and out of the team before that. I then got that run and the goals, which as a striker is what you want to do.

“Getting that run of games just before my injury, and getting my goals, my confidence started to build.

“The injury set me back for a couple of weeks which was frustrating.

“I’ve got over that now and I’m happy to be back in the team, but I was out for four weeks so I was going to lose a bit of sharpness.

“Getting a couple of games under my belt has been good for me and I feel good.

“It has been a tough shift or two in my first games back, but that can only help my legs after having been out for a period of time.”
