Oli Shaw believes he is ready to step up and take responsibility for finding the back of the net on a regular basis for Ross County.

The former Hibernian forward has had a stop-start career so far in Dingwall, moving north two months before the pandemic forced all football activity to stop.

He has been in and out of the starting 11 so far this season, with most of his opportunities coming from the substitute’s bench, and it was from there that Shaw scored his first league goal for the Staggies.

Although it came in a losing effort away at Dundee United, it was a nice moment for the 22-year-old to build on his first overall goal for the club in the Betfred Cup against Montrose.

Ending a poor run for the team in front of goal that had seen the Staggies draw a blank in their previous four Premiership matches, Shaw hopes he can lead the charge to kick on again.

“We’ve not scored many goals lately, so I’m hoping to be the player to get them and give us a bit of a boost going into the December period,” Shaw explained.

“I’ll keep making runs and doing what I do and it is just a case of getting the ball played through.

“We’ve created chances and not taken them. I’m hoping to be the person in the next upcoming games that will be there to take the chances and build on the one I got at the weekend.

“We see in training the finishing ability we have and not just the strikers - all over the park.

“It’s just that wee bit of luck we need to turn in front of goal. We’ve missed a few, but it’s going to happen.”

Livingston are the next test for County, at home tonight in front of 300 supporters at the Global Energy Stadium.

It will be a tricky game, but County are desperate to win.

“We’ve lost a few games through our own mistakes – if we take that out and take our chances, fortunes will improve,” Shaw admitted.

“It is tight in the table. We have a lot of games coming back-to-back.

“It has been a wee while since we got a league win on the board, so we know we need to get that three points.

“Livingston are coming off a defeat like us, so it will be one of those games where both teams are wanting to win the game. They are always a tough test.”
