Ross Sutherland Rugby Club will hope to return to winning ways this weekend in Invergordon – where their new clubhouse is set to be in use for the first time.

Progress continues to be made with Ross Sutherland's new clubhouse (October 15, 2022).

The Stags have a 50/50 record in the Caledonia North Two so far this season, but that splits perfectly into home and away matches.

Two defeats out of two on the road, most recently a 60–12 loss at Shetland, have been offset somewhat by two victories out of two at the club’s Naval Grounds home.

That is where Ross Sutherland return tomorrow as they host Aberdeen Grammar 2nds, currently sitting bottom of the table with just a single point to show for their efforts so far this season.

Confidence, then, will be high in the Stags camp that another home win is set to follow, but it could be a significant day for the club off the pitch too.

Work on their new clubhouse has been ongoing for over two years, but progress continues to be made.

Last weekend the balcony began to be installed, while furniture has been arriving all week as the Stags look to get it ready for regular use.

Club spokesman David Gill even says that all being well, some areas of the new facility will open their doors after tomorrow’s match.

“We’ve got a run of a few home games, so they will be keen to try and build on the home successes that we’ve had,” he said.

“This weekend is about us getting back to winning ways and scoring tries – and hopefully getting a full touchline of support.

“As a facility, I think the clubhouse might be available after the match too.

“The changing rooms aren’t quite there yet, unfortunately we’re still waiting for the gas man to give us hot water – it’s limited to ice bath therapy at the moment, but it’s starting to look fantastic.

“It could potentially be a soft opening, a case of seeing what we need to do and taking baby steps before we plan too big.

“We don’t want to plan anything fantastic and then not be able to follow it through, we want to make sure that we’ve got all our ducks in a row first.

“There are still things we need to sort out with the kitchen as well, but as a space it’s going to be fantastic.

“We’ve had our battles with it, so it’s really great to see it starting to come together. It will be brilliant to get everyone in.”
