THERE was a 10-try bonanza at Invergordon on Saturday as Ross Sutherland secured a 65–10 win over Stornoway.

The game was over as a contest by half time as the Stags played with a fluidity that the visitors couldn’t handle. The second half performance didn’t have the same intensity and Stornoway were given the chance to get into the game, aided by Fin Danaher and John Reid falling foul of the referee and cooling their heels on the sidelines for 10 minutes.

Skipper David Gill said later: “I’m disappointed at the way we took our foot off the gas in the second half but I can’t fault the way the boys played in the first.

“We’ll be working on cutting out the mistakes and indiscipline that took the shine off today’s win when we meet up for training this week. Next week’s game at Garioch will be a tough one but our focus will be on getting a win.”

Andrew Cook was top scorer on the day with three tries and fifteen points from the boot. Mike Gordon scored a brace of tries and only needs four more from the remaining three league games to reach 100 points for the season. Andrew Bridgeford, Callum Moorhouse, Gareth Braddick and Gerry Rosie bagged the remaining points.

The Stags close their league campaign with three away ties at Garioch (21/3), Moray (11/4), and Shetland (18/4).

• Ross Sutherland’s U18s recorded a solid 15-34 league win at Aberdeen Wanderers on Saturday.

Missing several first team regulars it was a chance for the less experienced players to get game time and Alfie Cooper scored in his first start for the side. Cal Sangster (2), Alan Bregazzi and Cameron Munro all scored tries. Henry Pearce on kicking duty slotted three conversions and a penalty.

The U15s cup campaign is over after going down 15-8 at Falkirk in their quarterfinal tie on Sunday.

The game was very competitive throughout and could have gone either way. Jake Henry bagged his 11th try of the season and Fraser Mohun took his personal tally to 42 points with his successful penalty attempt.

ON Sunday, the Ross Sutherland S1/2 side couldn’t make it 6 wins in a row as they went down by ten tries to two at Ellon.
