PLAYERS turning out for Ross Sutherland Rugby Club took a bow at the club’s player awards dinner.

Andy Mackay capped his first full season for the Stags with the Young Player of the Year Award.

Andrew Cook had a difficult task to fill the kicking boots after John Mann’s departure for New Zealand, but the Most Improved Player Award was just recognition for his overall contribution to the team this season and finishing second highest scorer.

The big winner was Lewis Sinclair who scooped his second Player of the Year award in three years.

Sinclair, who is sponsored by local Alness business Victoriana, was ever-present in the league and cup campaigns and bagged five tries to be the highest scoring forward.

Coach Alan McLean said: “All the players are thoroughly deserving of their prizes. Lewis especially, showed the dedication and commitment that rubbed off on those around him. Any front row player would be delighted with one try in a season, so for him to score five shows just how valuable his contribution has been.”

In keeping with previous years, new club ties were awarded to the players who trained consistently week in and week out, made themselves available for the games, and embodied the spirit of the club: David Gill, Lewis Sinclair, Mike Gordon, Andrew Cook, Andy Mackay, Callum Moorhouse, Ben Ockenden, Will Mackenzie and Alan McLean.
