Ross-shire Rivals clash in Association Cup opening round

ASSOCIATION Cup holders Maryburgh have been drawn against county rivals Avoch in the opening round of this year’s competition.

With the Inverness and District Amateur League season due to kick off on Monday, April 6, cup draws took place at the association’s AGM last weekend.

There will be 28 teams competing in the three leagues this season with a number of notable absences, including Culbokie, Bellmac and Police.

However, there are a number of new clubs including Black Isle United, who are believed to be playing out of Culbokie.

Conon Bridge have rejoined the amateur ranks after a number of years out and Gairloch Aultbea United have also come in, boosting Ross-shire’s representation in the league to nine.

The Association Cup draw – first round – Balloan v Muir of Ord Rovers, Ardersier v Merkinch, Hill Rovers v Tomatin, Conon Bridge v Black Rock Rovers, NMM Sam’s v Innes CI, Contin v Gairloch Aultbea United, Drakies PDG v Highland Aviation, ICM Electrical v Ferrybache, Avoch v Maryburgh, Uncle Bob’s v Fortrose and Rosemarkie Union, Norbord v Loch Ness, Tomatin United v IRN Security.

Byes – Black Isle United, Charlestelona, NHS Highland and Culloden Blacksmiths.
