THE four clubs through to the last stages of the Ross-shire Singles League meet at the Alness Golf Club on Sunday for the final two rounds.

Fortrose & Rosemarkie, holders of the Highland Fabricators Cup, play Strathpeffer Spa in the first semifinal at 9am while Tain and Invergordon tee off thirty minutes later. The final is scheduled for 1.30pm.

THE Northern Counties Women’s Golf Association have four members turning out for Scotland in next month’s Home Internationals.

Northern Counties golf champion Alison Bartlett, of Royal Dornoch, joins Tain sisters, Mary Smith and Anne Ryan in the SLGA’s senior women’s team at Huddersfield Golf Club at the end of the month, September 3 to October2 in the matches against the other four home countries.

Meanwhile Abernethy’s Stirling University student Hannah McCook (21) has retained her place in the women’s Home International team line up which play at the Aberdovey Golf Club in Wales from September 17 to 19.

IN THE last three years only a smattering of north players achieved a top ten placing in the North of Scotland 72 Hole championship for the David Blair Trophy but last weekend three North District team golfers from the younger generation finished in the top four at Elgin Golf Club.

It has been thirteen years since a member of Lossiemouth’s Moray Golf Club, Gary Thomson, got a hand on the Blair Trophy, so named after the Walker Cup member from Nairn Golf Club, but at Elgin after four rounds club mates Stuart Tatters and Kyle Godsman could not be separated on a 72 hole total of 276 necessitating a two hole play-off. After a first hole half in par four Tatters won with a four to a five on the 18th hole to claim the £400 first prize voucher.

Jeff Wright (Forres) finished in fourth place on 273 before the two Ross-shire interests who made the halfway cut, Chris Gaittens and Alan Cameron, both of Fortrose and Rosemarkie, had totals of 290 and 297 respectively.
