ROSS-SHIRE golf clubs who go the extra mile for young players are being urged to put themselves forward for awards recognising great work with juniors.

ClubGolf, supported by RBS, is calling on the top golf clubs for children and the most dedicated volunteers to nominate themselves for the 2014/15 RBS Junior Golf Awards.

The RBS Junior Club of the Year and RBS Volunteer of the Year accolades reward commitment and innovation in promoting the game at grassroots level.

A prize of £1,500 goes to the winning club for investment into its junior section with the country’s leading volunteer gifted £500 for their home club, plus £100 to use personally.

Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf club won the 2014 award ahead of Bathgate, Peebles, and Prestonfield who were all recognised for their work at Gleneagles in September, when the Junior Ryder Cup friendship match teams were named in their honour.

Alistair Tait, ClubGolf coordinator at Fortrose and Rosemarkie, said: "It was a pleasant surprise for us to be nominated and then to win. Both senior and junior members were so pleased, and we now have large notice at the front door of the club so everyone can see we won!

"It was a great boost and put us on the map, and there’s no doubt the wider public is now aware of the success of the club. The prize money meant we could buy training and warm up equipment including sets of junior clubs for children ranging from aged five upwards, which has freed up other funds to improve the practice area for ClubGolf coaching and our 117 junior members."

The RBS Junior Club of the Year Award is open to over 300 Scottish golf clubs currently delivering ClubGolf while nominations for the RBS Volunteer of the Year will be invited from Scotland’s network of volunteer coaches.

The Scottish Golf Awards 2015 takes place on Friday, March 20 at The Corn Exchange in Edinburgh. Tickets can be booked by calling 01334 466477 or visiting www.scottishgolf.org
