Ross County’s senior women’s team got off to a flying start in the Highlands and Islands League, defeating Orkney 6-1.

Chloe Wallace and Rachel Blackhurst scored two apiece, with Mikayla Mackay and Maimie Zimmerman also finding the net.

“It was a fantastic performance from a very new team who have only played with each other once,” head coach Iain MacIver said.

“They dominated the game from kick off, working hard throughout and highlighting areas to work on in training for further improvement.

“It was a landmark moment for the club having a senior team play their first ever match, which will be a further step towards progress into the national leagues.”

Ross and Cromarty were also in action, losing out 7-2 to Caithness.

This Sunday Ross and Cromarty host Sutherland, while Ross County travel to Nairn St Ninian.
