Roy MacGregor says Ross County have come to a crossroads where it needs to rediscover who they are as a football club.

The chairman believes the club needs to look at its values and if they need to change compared to what they were a decade ago.

Since reaching the Scottish Cup final in 2010 and gaining promotion to the Premiership in 2012, being in the top flight for nine of the last 10 seasons, MacGregor says the club have battled to prove they belong in Scottish football’s elite.

But going into next season, MacGregor believes the Staggies need to take a look at themselves and decide if they need to adopt a different mindset of just belonging in the Premiership.

Speaking on RCFC TV, he said: “At Ross County's journey we have had 25 years, the first 15 years were a cause.

"Why are a team from the Highlands not been accepted in Scottish football?

“As we came up through the leagues, there was a journey and a cause and in 2010 there was a Scottish Cup final

“That was a watershed and created a belief. But that belief has to have a soul, and after 10 years where is the soul? Where is the cause?

“You’re a Premier League club, who are you?

“Probably as we go forward now, we have come to a junction that we need to examine who we are. “Does the values that we had 25 years ago still apply today?”

After avoiding relegation this season, thanks to 10 points out of 15 in the split and finishing 10th, MacGregor says the club have to look at how it takes the next step of at least challenging for a place in the top six.

With Hearts returning to the Premier League next season, he believes the division will be a tougher challenge.

“We need to take stock,” he said.

“Alex Ferguson says a team lasts four years, one year to build it, two years for completing it and the fourth year to dismantle it.

“But we weren’t in the position of 10th for no reason, we have Hearts coming back into the league that makes it stronger.

“We are a bottom six team, how do we become seventh?

“That will be the challenge we need to talk about and it will be in depth talks and examination.

“It will be about football but also who Ross County, what does it stand for? What does it represent and represent for its fans?”
