Malky Mackay hailed Ross County’s warriors after another late goal at home helped the side to a draw against Livingston.

For much of the game, the Staggies were not at the races compared to their opponents, who took the lead just after the restart through Alan Forrest.

Livingston continued to create the better chances, and had a golden opportunity to seal the points when Regan Charles-Cook bundled over James Penrice inside his own penalty area.

Ayo Obileye stepped up, looking to recreate the spot kick that sent County out of the Scottish Cup last month, but this time he blazed his shot over the bar with five minutes left on the clock.

That gave the home side renewed belief, and they finally got an equaliser in the 93rd minute through Kayne Ramsay.

“It was a great point for us,” Mackay stressed.

“I thought the first half was nip and tuck in terrible conditions. I was looking at the Jail End not being able to see the ball.

“I thought we had good territory in the first half and tried to keep the ball, but in the second half we were off it a little.

“We need everybody to be on it, and a couple weren’t, which allowed them to get on the front foot.

“Once they score they’re not easy to play against, but I brought on a couple to freshen it up and thankfully that worked in the end.

“We’ve got a group of boys who don’t see themselves as a team that are beaten when they go a goal down, and that’s something that was evident again tonight.”

Mackay acknowledged that County were not at their best, but commended his players for the way they kept going while below par.

“I said to them, if you’re not playing well make sure the boy up against you is not playing well, and stay in the game,” he explained.

“We obviously got off the hook with the penalty being missed, but we’ve done that ourselves to teams.

“We’ve had some real nip and tucks against Livingston this year. We talked at the end there and David Martindale was disappointed they never won, but we were talking again about us being disappointed twice before when we played them because of late goals.

“It was a group of warriors that kept going and managed to pull a point out of the fire. After the turn of the year now I think that’s two wins, three draws and a defeat, so we need to keep going.”
