The League One Bairns targeted the ex-Aberdeen, Fleetwood Town and Dunfermline frontman after it became clear first team opportunities would be limited in Dingwall.

With McManus out of contract next summer, his County career looks to be over after just 12 Championship starts and two goals last season.

There were also 20 substitute appearances in the league, but it proved a frustrating year for the 24-year-old Glaswegian after a productive previous campaign with the Pars.

County co-manager Steven Ferguson said: “With the strength of our group and fierce competition for places, game time was going to be limited for Declan.

“Both parties felt it was best for him that he looked to get out and play consistently.”

Falkirk manager Ray McKinnon is understood to have made it clear to McManus he can play a major part in Falkirk’s drive to escape League One and return to the Championship.

County’s main strike options include 20-goal Billy Mckay, Scottish Cup winner Brian Graham and Ross Stewart, who netted a double in Saturday’s opening League Cup match against Montrose.
