ROSS County finished their Irn Bru Division One season on Saturday with a 3-0 home win against Cowdenbeath.

The Blue Brazil needed an 11-goal miracle in Dingwall to trade places with the Staggies and avoid that dreaded relegation play-off spot.

County were in control from the start and a fine save from visiting keeper Ludovic Roy denied Iain Vigurs, who drove from distance.

Michael Gardyne then saw his shot sweep off the outside of a post after Andy Barrowman set him up with a header.

Staggies goalkeeper Michael McGovern was called into action for the first time on 21 minutes when he turned behind a shot from Marc McKenzie.

However, full-back Scott Morrison put County in front with a goal on 32 minutes when he scored a cracker from 25 yards.

Just before the break, Barrowman's looping header finished wide and County went in leading just 1-0.

Boss Jimmy Calderwood, who will speak again with chairman Roy MacGregor this week about his own future at the club, demanded more from his players in the second half, clearly not happy with the performance at that point.

Referee Crawford Allan was then replaced by assistant Gavin Harris, having earlier collided with Vigurs and sustaining a rib injury.

There was no more scoring until 83 minutes when defender Scott Boyd met a Richard Brittain corner to net with a header.

Six minutes later, Mark Corcoran sealed the victory when he scored from close range.

It means a rollercoaster season finished with County in eighth place, six points ahead of Cowdenbeath, who play Second Division side Brechin City on Wednesday in the first play-off match for the battle to be in Division One next term.
